Frequently Asked Questions

What is somatic therapy?

The term somatic derives from the Greek word soma meaning ‘body’ and the definition of therapy that resonates the most for me is ‘to steward’.

Somatic therapy is when we attend to the needs of the body and all that lives in it. It is a holistic approach acknowledging that for many people simply talking about their problems isn’t enough to create change. If you are wanting to feel more healthy and balanced in your life, consciously practice embodying these qualities daily. If you are unsure about how to do this, somatic therapy is helpful.

Connecting to your body, mind and soul is a healing art and devoting yourself to this practice is choosing to prioritize your mental health. If you are experiencing discord or dis-ease, it’s your body’s way of communicating that something is out of balance. Often it is an overactive mind at the root of this imbalance; depleting energy and leaving physical and spiritual needs unattended.

In a somatic therapy session you will be offered infinite ways to connect to the mental, physical and spiritual messages always coming through. The quality of your relationship to your body, mind and soul directly affects your wellbeing. In sessions, you’ll be empowered to practice mindfulness techniques that will assist in deepening your focus and expanding your awareness. You’ll learn how to listen closely to what your body is trying to communicate through pain and you’ll exercise embodiment practices that will help you stay grounded so you can integrate all of the feels that come with being ALIVE. Somatic therapy is a great choice for humans that have a hard time being present.

What is your approach?

My approach as a somatic therapist is to come from a framework that recognizes we are all brilliant and sometimes this truth gets clouded by the programming that exists in this world. I don’t see clients as broken and I don’t feel the need to diagnosis them. If you are struggling, I will track for ways imbalance may be showing up and then take the time to co-create a lifestyle that supports equal expansion in all the areas of your being. I work relationally and collaboratively and as a therapist I am offering you a secure relationship for healing and repairing wounds from your past. I naturally use parts work and will honor the intelligence of your inner child and ancestors.

My private practice is exactly that. I offer tools for body, mind and soul connection that I also practice, so you can trust you will get somebody who is present, focused and REAL in therapy. I enjoy showing up fully for the beings in my life and to do this sustainably requires self-care. Self-care is something I value and love sharing with clients.

I celebrate authenticity, heart-centered honesty and those who are weird and different; those who do not fit in a box. I am grateful to create safe, inclusive spaces for humans to practice showing up in their full creative expression.

I recognize the effects of trauma and respect that every body experiences it different. I will actively make space for your unique experience and together we will practice listening and tapping into your body’s wisdom for healing and growth. It is essential to me to approach your healing journey with compassion and patience.

I will be there as your witness and guide.
